Fujikura Europe: a fusion of technology and productivity for a new generation

Fujikura Europe Ltd is yet again leading the way for a new generation of fusion splicing technology with the launch of the new FSM-50S.

As producer of the world’s best-selling fusion splicer, Fujikura’s new generation model promises to deliver increased productivity and reduced costs to the voice and data communications industries.

The FSM-50S is the fastest singlemode core-aligning fusion splicer available in the world and easily replaces the hugely successful FSM-40S. With the splice time reduced to just 9 seconds with singlemode fibre and the splice protector shrink time down to only 35 seconds, the overall cycle time has been halved, making this the most cost-efficient product on the market today.

Yet, what’s even more exciting is that in addition to the enhanced features, the FSM-50S is smaller and lighter than its predecessor – it weighs just 2.8kg including the AC Adapter – providing outstanding ease of use. This new generation model is designed for splicing single optical fibres and is equipped with Fujikura’s uniquely developed Profile Alignment System (PAS) for precise core-to-core fibre alignment, which enables consistent low splice loss and accurate loss estimation, regardless of fibre type or quality. Additionally, the fibre clamp arms are incorporated into the wind protector assembly, thereby reducing the operational time of the fibre placement and contributing to faster cycle times and an increased productivity rate.

The FSM-50S also has a reversible monitor which can be placed at the rear or the front, depending on the user’s preference, giving greater flexibility and ease of use. An optional feature is an internal interchangeable battery that gives 160-splice capacity – almost double the capacity previously offered by the FSM-40S.
